A Rate-Optimal Construction of Codes with Sequential Recovery with Low Block Length

چکیده
An erasure code is said to be a code with sequential recovery with parameters r and t, if for any s ≤ t erased code symbols, there is an s-step recovery process in which at each step we recover exactly one erased code symbol by contacting at most r other code symbols. In earlier work by the same authors, presented at ISIT 2017, we had given a construction for binary codes with sequential recovery from t erasures, with locality parameter r, which were optimal in terms of code rate for given r, t, but where the block length was large, on the order of r t , for some constant c > 1. In the present paper, we present an alternative construction of a rate-optimal code for any value of t and any r ≥ 3, where the block length is significantly smaller, on the order of r 5t 4 + 7 4 (in some instances of order r 3t 2 ). Our construction is based on the construction of certain kind of treelike graphs with girth t+1. We construct these graphs and hence the codes recursively.

Polarization of Multi-Relay Channels: A Suitable Method for DF and CF Relaying with Orthogonal Receiver
Polar codes, that have been recently introduced by Arikan, are one of the first codes that achieved the capacity for vast numerous channels and they also have low complexity in symmetric memoryless channels. Polar codes are constructed based on a phenomenon called channel polarization. This paper discusses relay channel polarization in order to achieve the capacity and show that if inputs of tw...
متن کاملOn the Excess Entropy of a Mixture of Sources and the Average Redundancy Rate of Adaptive Block Codes
It is well known that the average redundancy rate of sample-based universal block codes is monotonically decreasing with the length of samples used for their construction. We show, that this is no longer true if samples and blocks of symbols to be compressed are produced by two different sources. In this case, the formula for the average redundancy receives an additional term which changes the ...
متن کاملOn Sequential Locally Repairable Codes
We consider the locally repairable codes (LRC), aiming at sequential recovering multiple erasures. We define the (n, k, r, t)SLRC (Sequential Locally Repairable Codes) as an [n, k] linear code where any t(≤ t) erasures can be sequentially recovered, each one by r (2 ≤ r < k) other code symbols. Sequential recovering means that the erased symbols are recovered one by one, and an already recovere...
متن کاملParallel Construction of the Minimum Redundancy Length-limited Codes
This paper presents new results on the construction of the length-limited preex-free codes with the minimum redundancy. We describe an algorithm for the construction of length-limited codes that works in O(L) time with n processors, where L is the maximal codeword length. We also describe an algorithm for the construction of almost optimal length-limited codes that works in O(log n) time with n...
متن کاملQPSK block-modulation codes for unequal error protection
Unequal error protection (UEP) codes find applications in broadcast cbannels, as well as in otber digital communication systems, where messages bave ditTerent degrees of importance, In this correspon dence, binary linear UEP (LUEP) codes combined with a Gray mapped QPSK signal set are used to obtain new efficient QPSK block-modulation codes for unequal error protection. Several examples of QPS...
